About Us
Welcome to Lakota!
The powerful formulas used in Lakota products are rooted in traditional Native American medicine and represent the collective tradition and knowledge of many different Indian Nations. Many of the ingredients in the Lakota formulas, such as White Willow Bark and Yucca Root are used in various traditional Native American medicines. Modern natural ingredients such as Glucosamine and Collagen Type II have been added to enhance the effects of the traditional medicine.
Our Origins
Rick Stewart, a Canadian Metis of Cree heritage, founded Lakota. He understood that Native people had some unique traditional medicines to share, and he developed the Lakota formualtion as a way to make those traditional treatments available to ordinary people everywhere.
Mr. Stewart first applied his knowledge of the therapeutic benefits of natural health products as an award winning horse trainer. Based on his success in treating racehorses with natural health products, he went on to develop a successful line of equine pain relief and joint care products.
Quite fittingly, it was this interest in natural medicines that inspired Rick to discover and develop the Lakota formulas for the millions of people suffering from arthritis pain every day. Many arthritis sufferers only know of traditional prescription drugs and painkillers that are often ineffective and could have deadly side effects. Stewarts goal in establishing Lakota was to ensure that the Native American's knowledge of natural remedies was not hidden in the history books. He wanted to honour and recognize Native Americans for their contribution to modern medicine.
